Inspired Learners

Inspired students learn better. The Elementary School (Grades 1 to 5)
focus on helping students understand who they are as learners and what
motivates their learning. In other words, it’s about finding
what they are passionate about in their school life.

In lessons that focus on multidisciplinary content, teachers encourage students to discover through collaborative work and practice. Our learning spaces are designed to address the needs of a forward thinking school.

Learning happens through research-based and field-tested approaches
that have been proved effective in children’s social and emotional growth, in
addition to conceptual understanding, competencies and character development.

What Makes Us Unique

Everyday Math

Everyday Math

Everyday Math, from the University of Chicago, uses a problem-solving approach. It is a research based program on how children develop mathematical skills and practices. Students engage in math through games, models and related hands-on activities.

Inclusive Practice

Inclusive Practice

Inclusive Practice is an approach to teaching that recognizes the diversity of students. Children, regardless of their cognitive or academic level, are able to fully participate in learning activities and demonstrate their knowledge and skills through assessment. Individual differences are valued and embraced and practices increase the participation and progress of students that learn differently not only in the classroom, but in other learning experiences, such as non-academic and extracurricular activities.

Next Generation Science

Next Generation Science

Based on the Framework for K-12 Science Education, developed by the National Research Council, in the United States, Next Generation Science Standards are guidelines created to help students deeply understand core scientific concepts, the scientific process of developing and testing ideas and to have a greater ability to evaluate scientific evidence. NGSS gives the same emphasis to engineering design and to scientific inquiry.

Readers and Writers Workshop

Readers and Writers Workshop

The Reading and Writing Workshop Model from Teachers’ College at Columbia University is a structured time for the teaching and learning of literacy. The main focus of the Workshop Model is to differentiate instruction in order to meet the learning strengths and needs of all students while fostering a love of reading and writing in a literacy-rich environment. Choice, student agency, time spent reading and writing and differentiated instruction are important parts of this model.

Students learn to use literacy independently and collaboratively within this model.

Home Learning Instead of Homework

Home Learning Instead of Homework

ISC believes that after school hours should be used by students to connect with their families and for personal development through reading, leisure and engaging in social activities and sports. For this reason, students have home learning activities, instead of traditional home work.

Language Support

Language Support

Our Language Support program is divided between EAL (English as an Additional Language) and PAL (Portuguese as an Additional Language). EAL aims to adapt the student who has little or no knowledge of English, using academic content to develop cognitive skills in a second language. The PAL program aims international student integration through local language and culture. Both programs support student language adaptation at or school.
