About Us
The International School of Curitiba
We are an internationally-minded community of students, teachers, parents, staff & alumni engaged in continuous learning. By embracing all contexts and spaces as unique opportunities for learning, we contribute to global educational excellence.
ISC is a progressive, non-profit international school that is constantly redefining learning. At ISC, we incorporate the latest research and believe that the essential skills for our students’ futures are communication, collaboration, creativity, critical thinking, character, and citizenship.
Founded in 1959 as American Cooperative School, ISC opened its door with approximately 15 students. After 10 years we became “Associação da Escola Internacional de Curitiba”, known today as the International School of Curitiba.
Our History
Accreditation & Diplomas
ISC is accredited by the Brazilian Ministry of Education (MEC), ensuring compliance with all requirements for a Brazilian school’s curriculum and content contact hours. Internationally, ISC undergoes rigorous and extensive audits of its curriculum, school structure, teacher qualifications, methodologies, and educational outcomes by recognized external accreditation institutions.
Today the New England Association of Schools & Colleges and the International Baccalaureate Organization attest to the quality of ISC and recognize its exceptional learning programs.

Commited to Academic Excellence
To improve our educational methods, we utilize tools like MAP Growth — an adaptive assessment that emphasizes learning progression and student growth, and helps ISC maintain rigorous academic standards.
Teaching and learning at ISC improve through Curriculum Review Cycles, external assessment, and the hiring of international and national Consultants to support educational decisions and plan for improvements. Teachers regularly engage in co-planning classes, classroom visits, peer mentoring, and professional development to enhance their practice.
Grading & Student
Commitment to Learning
At ISC, student progress is measured through standard-based assessment, grading, and communication. Proficiency Scales serve as the primary tool in this process. This method offers teachers, students, and parents comprehensive information about learning progression, with a significant focus on fostering student responsibility and autonomy in their learning development.
Compared to local Brazilian schools that still follow a traditional grading system, students at ISC are expected to demonstrate a higher level of commitment to learning and positive social behavior. The learning process at ISC emphasizes autonomy and freedom, while also providing extensive support when needed.
A Multicultural Community
Engaged in Learning
We firmly believe that quality education is achieved by incorporating a diverse range of perspectives into a student’s life. At ISC, we expect everyone, including students and parents, to embrace a multicultural environment where culture shock may manifest in various ways. Our teachers and staff members come from a wide range of cultural backgrounds, which enriches our community and enhances our learning experiences. The classroom should be viewed from an international perspective rather than that of a local Brazilian school.
