Standards-based grading is more than tweaking an existing grading system. Rather, it requires the rethinking of existing curriculum, assessment and reporting practices.

About the Conference


ISC AASSA Conference allows teams of international educators, Kinder to Grade 12, to learn more about how to either move towards standards-based grading, assessment and reporting, or to refine their existing system. 

Philip B. Warrick, EdD, our guest speaker, is an author and consultant and has worked globally in the areas of school leadership, instruction, collaborative practices and grading.  This conference will increase professional learning in AASSA by better informing educators of accurate, authentic and reliable standards-based practices.

The conference will take place over two different sessions during the school year:
Session 1: 26 & 27 July 2018 – 8am to 4pm  [EXPIRED]

The Speaker

Phil Warrick – Writer Phil Warrick, EdD, is an associate vice president of Marzano Research Laboratory. He was an award-winning administrator for nearly twelve years, most recently as Principal of Round Rock High School, which serves nearly three thousand students. Phil has been an adjunct professor at Peru State College since 2005. In 2010, he was invited to participate in the Texas Principals’ Visioning Institute, where he worked with other principals to develop model practices for Texas schools. He is a former regional president for the Nebraska Council of School Administrators (NCSA). He also served on the NCSA legislative committee and was elected chair. In 2003, he was one of the first participants to attend the Nebraska Educational Leadership Institute, conducted by The Gallup Corporation at Gallup University in Omaha.   • How to create, refine or be a consumer of quality classroom-based assessments;
  • Ways to figure meaningful grades;
  • Practical considerations for leading this transformational work at your school;
  • How to connect standards-based grading to the unique landscape of your school;
  • Professionals must attend in groups.

In this training, we build upon our July workshop and continue to walk international educators through an effective standards-based grading system.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Refine the process for prioritizing standards; 
  • Examine the what, why and how of proficiency scale implementation;
  • Build upon the creation and refinement of quality standards-based assessments;
  • Fine tune the calculation and reporting of meaningful grades;
  • Continue practical considerations for leading this work at your school;
  • Engage with your team on embedding standards-based grading;
  • Professionals must attend in groups.
